🇺🇦🇿🇦 Maksym Yakovlyev, Director of the School for Policy Analysis NaUKMA and Dean of Faculty of International Relations and Governance, took part in the Winter School on Ukraine and Southern African Futures: Strengthening Policy Analysis, Cultural Understanding, and Security Perspectives for Africa, held in South Africa.
Over three days, Ukrainian and South African researchers, diplomats, and civil society representatives discussed international relations and security, history and decolonial studies, human rights, international law, and transitional justice, as well as prospects of African-Ukrainian cooperation.
As part of the programme, Maksym Yakovlyev:
▪️ delivered a lecture on the political history of Ukraine;
▪️ presented the Ukrainian think tank landscape;
▪️ led a lecture and discussion on security guarantees for Ukraine and the future of global security.
The Winter School brought together academics from 15 South African universities and dozens of Ukrainian experts. Events like this are important for direct professional dialogue and for building long-term academic connections between Ukraine and South Africa.
We are grateful to everyone who makes projects fostering international academic and expert dialogue like this possible.
The Winter School was organised by the Ukrainian Association of South Africa in partnership with the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, University of Pretoria, University of Cape Town, and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung South Africa.
The project is implemented within the Ivan Lysiak-Rudnytsky Ukrainian Studies Programme of the Ukrainian Institute and the Cultural Diplomacy Foundation, with support from the International Renaissance Foundation and the Mnozhyna Foundation.
