Veronika Vinohradova, representative of the SfPA at the NaUKMA, carried out an advocacy visit to Brazil, continuing the Networking Bridges: Latin America and Ukraine initiative and further developing academic dialogue between Ukraine and Brazil.
An important part of the visit was a series of meetings with representatives of Brazilian universities and the academic community, including Gabriel Haddad Teixeira (UniCEUB), Jose Romero Pereira Junior (Universidade Católica de Brasília), Prof. Antônio Jorge Ramalho da Rocha (Universidade de Brasília), Fernanda De Castro Brandao Martins (Mackenzie Rio), and Raquel dos Santos (Universidade Federal Fluminense).
It was especially valuable to continue the cooperation established through Networking Bridges. Bruna Rohr Reisdoerfer (IDP) organized a discussion with the Research Group on International Security (SEGINT), while thanks to Marcelo Furtado Martins de Paula (Universidade de Brasília), the lecture “From Kyiv to Brasília: Exploring Ukraine–Brazil Relations” was held at UnB’s Institute of International Relations. The dialogue also continued with Fabricio Vitorino (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), opening new opportunities for further academic cooperation.
The dialogue continued online with Janaína Martins Cordeiro (Universidade Federal Fluminense), Vicente Ferraro — a researcher at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) and the Center for Ukrainian Studies at Universidade de São Paulo (USP) — as well as researchers from UFF and UFRJ working on Central and Eastern Europe.
The cultural dimension of the visit included a special screening of the Ukrainian film You Are the Universe in Brasília, connecting contemporary Ukrainian culture with the history of Ukrainian-Brazilian technological cooperation, particularly the legacy of Alcântara Cyclone Space — one of the most ambitious projects of technological and strategic cooperation between Ukraine and Brazil.
Above all, the visit demonstrated that, despite the geographical distance between our countries, the interest in and potential for cooperation are far greater than they may seem. Perhaps its most important outcome was the realization that there are people on both sides ready to turn this potential into concrete partnerships.
The next step is to transform this mutual interest into lasting academic ties and joint projects. 🇺🇦🤝🇧🇷
